Resolution 2013-451, passed by the Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners in July 2013, requires registration of all providers of transient lodging in Ashtabula County prior to the collection of the county's 5 percent bed (lodging) tax. There is no fee to register
During your first year of operation, you will be required to report monthly. Should your quarterly tax obligation consistently fall below $300, you may apply for quarterly reporting. However, all seasonal operations must report monthly. Reporting forms are available online for download.
If you close the business or convert it to long-term (more than 29 days to one guest) lodging, you will need to surrender the certificate.
Registrations are reviewed annually and compliance is spot checked throughout the year. Non-compliance can result in penalties, fines, an audit and prosecution through the Ashtabula County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
Your guests also may be required to pay a lodging tax to the village, township or city. See the table for rates and contact numbers.
