On February 26, Independent We Stand, the national small
business movement, kicked-off its third annual America’s Main
Streets contest to help consumers, small business owners and Main Street
organizations reward a deserving Main Street with $25,000 in cash and
sponsor-related prizes. Bridge
Street in Ashtabula is among this year’s nominees.
America’s Main Streets play an important role in the long-term success of communities and help build a sense of place reinforcing this year’s theme: “Local Memories. Lasting Impact.”
Independent We Stand America’s Main Streets contest shines a light on the pride
business owners and communities take in their Main Streets,” says Independent
We Stand co-founder Bill Brunelle. “We know small businesses on these Main
Streets help them thrive and have a measurable economic impact. This contest is
a chance to share those stories with people from coast-to-coast.”
“We are excited to see Bridge Street compete in the
America's Main Streets Contest for a second year in a row. We had a lot of fun competing
last year and watching Bridge Street place in the top 5. The contest winner is
based on total votes, and last year we entered the contest nearly 60 days after
our competition. This year, Bridge Street was amongst the first to have their
nomination accepted. We believe we have an even greater chance of winning
because we were prepared and on time. The $25,000 grand prize will allow Bridge
Street to complete several beautification projects currently in the works.” –

$25,000 grand prize will allow Bridge Street to complete several main street
beautification projects that are currently in the works, one of them being an
“Ashtabula” sign similar to the “Hollywood” or “Cleveland” sign that will sit
on the hillside of Point Park to welcome visitors. Another beautification project is a large anchor that will serve as street décor and a welcome sign.
In 2017, Bridge
Street competed in the America’s Main Streets 2nd annual contest and with only 1.5 days left of quarterfinalist voting made it into the top 25. In the end, Bridge Street made it to the top 5, despite competing against 240+ other nominees.
first round of voting in the contest began as soon as Bridge Street was
nominated and runs through April 22. All nominations and voting take place on MainStreetContest.com.
