Members for Ashtabula County Boards and Committees Sought

 

The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners is seeking interested parties to fill openings on several Boards and Committees.

“The individual expertise and knowledge that board members share is invaluable. Serving on a board or committee is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your community and support a cause that interests you”, said Board President Casey Kozlowski.

The following are brief descriptions of these boards:

Ashtabula County Transportation System Advisory Committee

The Ashtabula County Transportation System Advisory Committee was created to advise the System on meeting the transportation needs of the residents of Ashtabula County. The terms of the members are set at three (3) years. The Board meets the 2nd Thursday of every month, 8:15am at the Operations Center, 425 West 24th St., Ashtabula, OH 44004.

 

Ashtabula County Port Authority

Pursuant to Section 4582.22 of the Ohio Revised Code the Ashtabula County Port Authority was created to serve the areas of the County not presently included within the territory of existing port authorities. The Ashtabula County Port Authority activities enhance, foster, aid, provide, or promote transportation, economic development, housing, recreation, education, governmental operations, culture, or research within the jurisdiction of the port authority. The terms of the members are set at four (4) years. The Authority meets monthly on Friday’s at 8:00a.m.

 

Ashtabula County Public Defender Commission

Pursuant to Section 120.13 of the Ohio Revised Code the Board of Commissioners created the Ashtabula County Public Defender Commission to determine the qualifications and size of the supporting staff, facilities and other requirements necessary to maintain and operate the office of the county public defender. The terms of the members of the Ashtabula County Public Defender Commission are set at four (4) years.

 

Ashtabula County Convention Facility Authority

The Board has determined that a convention facilities authority is instrumental in the promotion of the tourism and convention trade in the County, including the development of a lodge and convention facility at Geneva State Park, and created a convention facilities authority on May 14, 2002, for the County under Chapter 351 of the Ohio Revised Code. The Authority shall be governed by a board of directors consisting of the following members:

(A) Six directors appointed by this Board. One shall be a representative of the townships in the County, one shall be a representative of a major business trade association located in the County, and one shall be a representative of the Ashtabula County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Nor more than three of the persons appointed under this division shall be members of the same political party.

(B) Two directors appointed by a majority of the mayors and managers of the remaining municipal corporation located within the County. The persons appointed under this Section (B) shall not be members of the same political party.

Each director shall have been qualified elector of, or shall have had his or her business or place of employment in the County for a period of at least three years next preceding his or her appointment. The Authority meets bi-monthly on Fridays at 8:00a.m.

Commissioner J. P. Ducro IV added, “Board service allows you to invest in your community, build a network with a common interest, gain a new skillset and grow as a leader, all while playing a crucial role in an organization by protecting its mission and overseeing its financial and legal well-being.”

The openings above include vacant positions and positions with terms expiring soon. The Board is accepting applications from the public, as well as from current members seeking reappointment.
