Tim Settles joined the Ashtabula County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in January 2017.
Tim has 33 years of experience in emergency management, disaster response, recovery, and preparedness. He has worked on more than 50 national disasters, including incidents such as the Northridge earthquake (1994), the Oklahoma City bombing (1995), the 9/11 terrorist attack (2001), Hurricane Katrina (2005), and Superstorm Sandy (2012).
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Thomas Edison State University and an Applied Associate of Science degree in Emergency Management Planning and Administration from Lakeland Community College. He is a member of the Order of the Sword and Shield National Honor Society which recognizes academic and professional excellence in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He has Emergency Manager Certifications through the State of Ohio Emergency Management Agency and Emergency Management Association of Ohio (EMAO) and the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). In He is certified as an Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response Program Specialist by the National Fire Protection Association. He is actively involved with disaster planning for many disciplines, including education and healthcare.
Tim has served as an instructor for 29 years, training disaster experts all over the United States in leadership roles and hundreds of professionals in response, planning, and preparedness. He is a certified instructor for the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
Tim was involved with response planning activities for Super Bowl XLVIII, the 2015 Pope Francis visit, the biennial Air Show at Joint Base McGuire, Dix, and Lakehurst, the Miss America Pageants from 2013 to 2015 and various other large events.

Tim is an avid reader and history buff. He is a member of the Friends of Gettysburg Foundation, the Erie County, PA Historical Society and the Ashtabula County Historical Society. Tim currently resides in Conneaut, Ohio with his wife, Nancy.
